Bolivar Cigars
The Bolivar brand of cigars, perhaps most famous for producing the smallest cigars in the world - the Delgado, was founded by Jose F. Rocha in Great Britain in 1901 but wasn’t registered in Cuba until 1921. Bolivar was bought by the Cifuentes family in 1954 and production was moved to the Partagas factory in Havana. After the Cuban Revolution, the Cifuentes family fled to the Dominican Republic, where Bolivar cigars are still made today. The cigar is named after Simon Bolivar (The Bold One), the celebrated Venezuelan revolutionary who led the independence wars in South America in the early 1800s. Bolivar had a reputation of being a strong Cuban cigar and, recently, the Dominican Bolívar brand was reblended to better match the strength of the Cuban-made brand.
In 2002, when Altadis bought a controlling share in the Cuban government-owned cigar distributor, Habanos SA, a number of changes in cigar production were instituted. One of these changes was the decision to gradually turn the various brands of Cuban cigars to either all-handmade or all-machine-made lines. Bolívar, which has historically produced a variety of handmade and machine-made or machine-finished cigars, had several of its vitolas cut from production, with only one remaining, the cigarillo-sized Chicos.
Bolivar cigars have a deeply flavorful Havano Medio Tiempo binder, as well as an aged San Augustin Ligero wrapper. The Filler is a mix of Dominican, and tobacco from the Ometepe and Esteli regions of Nicaragua. Even though Bolivar cigars are a full bodied smoke, they have a smooth, creamy texture that keeps many customers coming back for more. Ideal for an end of the night cigar, Bolivar is a pleasure to smoke and will certainly liberate your heart and taste buds! We carry three varieties of Bolivars -
