Litto Gomez of Tabacalera La Flor S.A in the Dominican Republic, has been described by Cigar Aficionado as of the most "innovative minds in the cigar business". Gomez, was a jeweler by trade and only became a cigar maker after losing $400,000 in a robbery on his Miami jewelery store. Gomez went on to buy a 120 acre farm where he grows high quality tobacco for his own cigars, and later acquired a smaller 40 acre farm for the growing of Corojo and Sumatra. His company began by focusing solely on growing binder and filler tobacco, but from 2002 onwards they also started to cultivate a shade grown wrapper and, to satisfy binder and filler production needs, started to grow sun grown and encallado.
La Flor Dominicana (DR) cigars are Gomez first line introduced in 1994. Hand made from all Dominican filler and binder with a choice of either a mild Connecticut Shade wrapper or more medium-bodied Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper, providing a smooth, complex and rich cigar suitable for any level of smoker.
Not for the noivice, the La Flor Dominicana 2000 line of cigars use Dominican fillers, Nicaraguan binder and an African Cameroon wrapper, giving a wonderful complex spicy flavor with sweet notes. Available in seven different shapes and sizes.
Introduced in 2001, La Flor Dominicana Ligero cigars are made using select Dominican Ligero longfiller and binder grown on Gomez's own farm, and wrapped in a tasty Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf. The rare 'Mysterio' double perfecto is part of this line, featuring an artful maduro leaf tip at the head and foot of each cigar.
The Ligeros were followed in in 2003 by the The La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero. These are full-bodied, and meticulously handcrafted with powerful ligero fillers rolled into a rich-tasting, Dark Natural Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper. The line includes the very highly rated 'Chisel' cigars with the unusual wedge-shaped heads, and that are offered in a choice of the dark natural Ecuadorian or Maduro wrapper.
Released in 2004 in celebration of the company's tenth anniversary, La Flor Dominicana Litto Gomez is a limited edition cigar aimed at the more experienced connoisseur who enjoys the stronger, more full bodied, ultra-premium Dominican Puro. It is the first of the La Flor Dominicana range to use their new shade-grown, Cuban-seed wrapper and comes in a variety of sizes. The Litto Gomez Diez, Chisel Puro, had the honor of being named #3 cigar of the year, in Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 of 2008!
The La Flor Dominicana Limitado III is truly a limited release. Only 2000 boxes of 48 cigars each were released. The tobacco in this rare cigar was grown on Litto Gomez's farm and uses a Dominican filler, Nicaraguan binder, and the wrapper is a Sumatra oscuro grown in Ecuador. Only 96,000 cigars were produced, be one of the few to enjoy this incredible cigar.
