Padron was started by Jose O. Padron in 1964. A Cuban refugee in Miami, Jose worked as a gardener and a carpenter before starting his now world famous cigar company. All of Padron's cigars are made with sun grown Nicaraguan tobacco. The youngest tobacco is at least two and a half years old and the oldest is in the 1926 series at five years of age. Renowned for quality Padron consistently places highly in reviews. In 2007 the Padron 1926 No. 9 Maduro was the No. 1 cigar of the year from Cigar Aficionado. In 2008 the Padron 1926 80th Anniversary Maduro was rated the No. 2 cigar of the year. Padron is known for making earthy cigars with sweet notes and some pepper in the flavors. Padron has three lines: the Classic line has what are known as the Thousands and is their more value oriented line, the Anniversary 1964 series was the first higher end release which is still very popular, the Anniversary 1926 series is their latest high end line and it includes those gems the 40th and 80th Anniversary cigars.
