This February Altadis U.S.A. Inc plans on releasing a new version of the H. Upmann brand called the H. Upmann Legacy. This bolder version will be a three size line that features a dark Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper and tobacco from a crop from 2008.
The Legacy will be the first from H. Upmann to use an Ecuadoran Sumatra wrapper. Aged tobaccos are also not common for Altadis, the company decided they wanted to not only add a fuller bodied blend to their H. Upmann line, they wanted one that was more unique.
Javier Estades, general manager of premium cigars, USA, for Imperial Tobacco PLC, which owns Altadis, stated that the company pulled out all of the stops in creating this new blend.
“It is a modern reinvention of a classic brand which offers a great, full and rich smoke that really epitomizes the new trend in cigar luxury,” Estades told Cigar Aficionado.
The Legacy was created to revamp Altadis’s already classic brands. Last year’s re-blend of the H. Upmann 1844 Reserve landed them a number 15 spot on Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2012, so we look forward to seeing what the Legacy has to offer.
