Richard S. "Kinky" Friedman was born in Chicago, Illinois. His family later moved to a ranch in Texas, where he grew up and started his own family. Kinky began his cigar company with influences from his favorite cigars, such as the Montecristo No. 2 and Bolivar cigars.
